  • Winter/Spring 2023 Monthly Postdoc Orientation

    Winter/Spring 2023 Monthly Postdoc Orientation

    May 16, 2023

This semester, we will alternate events between Zoom and in-person at BPS room 1425. Whether you have been with MSU for a long time or coming from far away, it is always helpful to check in at the orientation to learn about the resources and offices that can support your research and training while a postdoc at MSU. This is a good opportunity to learn about the university and meet some people who have similar backgrounds or interests. Staff, faculty and friends are welcome to attend, although the focus is on our postdocs (which are most frequently appointed as Research Associates, but also include Postdoctoral Fellows and a variety of other titles).

Registrants will receive some useful materials to help guide early conversations in shaping your career plan, discovering mentors and identifying your needs. You will better understand the benefits that are extended to you based on your appointment, and how to navigate your benefit packages. You will be introduced to many of the important resources that are available on campus and online to help you in your daily life and in your professional development.

If you are unable to attend this month, you are always welcome to join us at any of the orientations, which are typically the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 11 am. You are also invited to reach out to me and the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs at any time with questions or concerns about your training, your situation or any aspects of life as a postdoc.

I look forward to meeting you, and welcoming you to MSU as a postdoc.

    Director, Office of Postdoctoral Affairs

    Wednesday, May 24  2 – 3pm EDT

    About the event by Scismic

“You gain additional technical skills and increased research independence during a postdoc. These can help you in non-academic employment, if you know how to pitch your experience. This workshop will help you identify the best qualifications you bring from your postdoc position to a new role, and how to effectively communicate these throughout the job search process.”
