Studies by several national academies and by ETS have demonstrated that quantitative measures (e.g., GRE scores, undergraduate GPA) are not reliable predictors of graduate s tudent success. The Council for Graduate Schools, the American Associati on for the Advancement of Science, and the Urban Universities for Health along with many other national organizations, have advocated for holistic review of applicants as a way to ensure that those students who are admit ted are the most likely to succeed.
What does it mean in pr actice to do holistic review? What are the key drivers for graduate progr ams to shift their admissions strategies? What might programs be able to implement in this admissions cycle to promote better admissions decisions? Please join representatives from some of MSU’s leading graduate programs as they discuss their implementation of holistic admissions. In this pan el presentation, they will discuss different ways of practicing holistic review, the benefits to their programs, and the challenges involved in a broader approach to evaluating applicants’ strengths and weaknesses.
