MSU Cloud Computing Fellowship – Application deadline Monday, August 28, 2023
As a part of this program, during the Fall semester you will participate in a series of asynchronous activities and hands-on workshops that will teach you how to:
- Determine the aspects of your research that can be accomplished with cloud computing;
- Incorporate cloud-based systems into your research application or workflow; and
- Understand the strengths and limitations of commercial cloud computing with the goal of improving research yield and minimizing cost, and develop a workflow that utilizes that knowledge.
Following the workshops, you will receive hands-on support with adopting your research application to cloud computing and for any issues that you encounter with your cloud experience (using computing credits provided as a part of the fellowship). At the end of the spring semester, we will have a symposium where you will present the results of your experiments. We will further publicize your work through a variety of channels. In addition to participation and cloud computing credits, Cloud Computing Fellows will receive a small cash stipend after the successful completion of the fellowship.
If you are interested, please apply at https://forms.gle/HX7isyRzX4wgmWRm9 by no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, August 28, 2023. Applications will be judged by:
- The likelihood of the applicant’s current and future research benefiting in a meaningful way from cloud computing (see this document for some guidance);
- The research application’s contribution to a broad and diverse range of topical areas and cloud usage modalities; and
- The applicant’s likelihood to succeed in the program based on previous experiences and availability to participate in fellowship activities.
If you have any questions, please contact the ICER Director, Professor Brian O’Shea, at oshea@msu.edu.
